While Brent has been out of town I have taken on several projects to keep myself busy. The first being the garden- Check
pull weeds- Check
Spray paint Patio Chairs- Check
and now, recover patio chair cushions- Check!

Although I have only got one down, and 5 to go, I think it turned out great! I am so excited! I went to a sewing class today where they were teaching how to do corners and make slip covers for cushions, perfect!

The finished project! What do ya think!?

Weekend away

This past weekend Brent, Abby and I made the trip to Fallon, Nevada to meet up with my parents who were there for a race. We had a great time visiting a new place, although there isnt much there to entertain. Mom and dad made the 12 hour trek a couple of days before us, bringing their pup Clancy along for the ride, our drive was much less, only 6 hours, which is why we decided to go for just the weekend. It truly is the desert out there, with rattlesnake warnings and dust storms blowing through. We found a great little restaurant to have dinner each night, The Slanted Porch, What wonderful food for such a small town! We also picked up a couple pounds of fresh picked rainier cherries, my fav! They were so yummy and juicy, they didnt last the week :) All in All it was a great weekend spent with family.

This is the backside of the Blues in Oregon, they were
so pretty to drive along, but we couldnt believe all the
snow still on them!

Dad wearing his hat, It's the only one he'll wear :)

Brent hanging out at the trailer,
one of the only shady spots we had all weekend

Mom and I, it was pretty sunny so I had to wear one of Brent's hat's to keep my face from getting more sunburned than it already had... I'm not used to high-altitude sun!

Dad has always had my mom, sister and I on the race truck,
now, Brent is officially apart of the family.

I kept trying to get dad to pose by the truck, he just kept working... but I got one!

Clancy even came to the track on this trip!
Abby was so excited to see him! they love each other :)

Dad's awesome race truck!

Finally a Garden!

So with all of our travels, and all of the horrible weather we've been having, we have kinda been putting off the garden this year. We'll, I finally had a day or two to really kick it out and get things planted! woo hoo! I spent almost a full 26 hours planting over the past few days. Brent is out of town, so I figured what a better thing to keep myself busy. So, I pulled all the weeds that have popped up with all the rain, turned the dirt, mixed in some fertilizer, and tucked some cute little plants into their new bed. This year we've planted the following: Tomatoes, Zucchini, Lettuce (several types), Cantaloupe, Cucumber, Watermelon, Melon, Onions, Chives, Jalapeños, Bell Peppers, and Strawberries! What a list huh!? It's been fun planting new things, and some of the same things that did awesome here last year. Were finally getting the hang of having a garden, and cant wait to enjoy all the yummy, healthy produce that we'll be harvesting over the next couple of months!

(Below) Tomato and Zucchini plants

Our Lettuce garden, complete with Romaine, and an assortment of spring greens

Brent's Jalapeño garden, We have 6 jalapeño plants, 1 Serrano, and several Italian pepper mixes

Close-up of a Mammoth Jalapeño plant, so cute!

We had one little lettuce plant that came back from last year! I didn't know they would do that, so we transplanted it, it's the little tiny one off to the left of the big ones, isn't it cute!?

Right after planting, Everything looks so tiny!

Another project I took on, repainting the chairs! Last summer I painted them a granny smith green... Brent wasn't a fan, so, I picked out this shiny cherry red, I love it! I just need to figure out how to recover the fabric on the chairs... anyone want to help with that? I have a sewing machine already! :)

One of the barrel's of Strawberries, we have 3 barrel's, each with 2 plants in them. I also bought 2 plants that were grown in a green house, they are huge! and they are already producing berries, which is great, so we'll plant those and leave all of them. I didn't realize strawberries come back year after year, so I dug ours from last year up... oops! Now that I know this little fact, I will be leaving them to grow and produce all the berries they can :)

So, a few weeks ago we started having problems... my herb garden plants were going missing! and then this hole began to appear, it got bigger, and bigger, and huge! so, I started sneaking into the house when I got home, and I found this... Abby laying in the planter. when I found her she was actually passed out, head and arms wrapped around my cilantro plant, very cute, but what a little stinker she is! Now the Jalapeños are planted in the barrels, and I will find another planter for the herbs, I've also strung up the barrels, so hopefully she'll stay out of them from now on. I will be devastated if these plants get dug up for her cool spot.

While I was painting the chairs, I had just piled up the cushions against the house on the deck. when I came back over, I found this cute little thing taking a nap on them, all comfy and cozy.

I am so excited for our garden to grow and to see the fruits it will yield. I'll probably be needing a ton of zucchini recipes, so if you have any, pass them along, they will be much appreciated and enjoyed :)

Family Reunion 2010

After Chicago, I flew with Beth to Sacremento, where we met up with Brent, Dane and Jim. Memorial day weekend every year is spent in Stockton, CA at the Garcia family reunion. This year was the 49th year of the reunion, which meant big planning for next year! It was great to see family and spend time with people we don't normally get to see.

One of our first stops was In N Out burger, so yummy! We had to enjoy this meal several times throughout the weekend, as they are only in California, so whenever there, we indulge. It helps having one just down the street from our hotel... were a bit spoiled when staying there.

We also got to catch up with many family members! Below are Frankie and Kelly. Frankie has been doing the cooking at the reunion forever, and what a fabulous cook he is!!! he's there bright and early every morning and has the grill going all day. Last summer they met my dad at a race in Sonoma, and this year they will be at the same race cheering him on, and Frankie might even head up north for a race. I love that they were able to meet my dad and get to catch up with him throughout the year at events. They are so much fun!

Unfortunately I only have these pictures to share, I didnt have my camera, so only phone pics for now. once I get the rest of the pictures from family, i'll update with them. Until then, we already cant wait to visit again next year!

Chicago 2010

Last week I spent the week at the Chicago Sweets and Snacks expo for work. We had a blast! I flew in with Beth, and met up with co-workers/friends for the week. we had some fun events to attend throughout the week, all work related, and what a great week it was! We attended a Cubs game at Wrigley field! which I had never been too, so that was an amazing experience! we sat on a rooftop of one of the houses, such a neat place to see the game! then after the game we had to stop for a beer at Murphy's bar just outside the stadium, it's tradition, apparently, and what a great tradition to partake in!

The last 3 pictures are from the Ferrara Pan event and fireworks display on the river. what a great show! then the Jelly Belly after party on the rooftop patio at McCormick place. Then a slice of heaven, Lou Malnati's Deep Dish Chicago pizza! Delish!!
